SUMMARY:New permanent exhibition at the Stadtmuseum
DESCRIPTION:As a first step\, the foyer on the second floor was completely redesigned. The newly designed exhibition invites visitors on an interactive journey through time\, giving them an overview of the town’s settlement history.  \nAn important element is the wide range of interaction options in the new room. Drawers can be pulled out and their contents viewed\, flaps can be opened or a district puzzle can be played. The lighting has also been modernized to improve the overall visual impression. The final element is a display case\, which is filled with a new object every year\, be it a new addition to the museum or a loan from the public.    Because every everyday object can make history – perhaps the object that particularly moved us this year will one day be on display in a museum.   \nPublic tours of the extended permanent exhibition will take place on Friday\, March 27 and Friday\, April 17\, both at 3 pm. \nThe new room is the centerpiece of the city museum’s permanent exhibition and can be visited from Thursdays to Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. from January 22.

SUMMARY:Special exhibition Stadtmuseum: Ratoldescella - Radolfzell
DESCRIPTION:Radolfzell celebrates – and looks back on more than 1200 years of eventful history. To mark the town’s anniversary\, the Radolfzell Town Museum will be showing the special exhibition “Ratoldescella – Radolfzell” from May 17\, 2026.    \nThe exhibition begins with the founding of the town of Radolfzell in 826 by Bishop Radolt of Verona. With the “Ratoldescella”\, a first ecclesiastical settlement\, he laid the foundation stone for today’s town. The presentation traces his life as a religious and political player in early medieval Europe – from Reichenau via Aachen and Rome to Verona. Historical views and reconstructions bring the old cityscape back to life. An interactive display of Heber’s map from 1708 shows many exciting details of the Radolfzell area during the Baroque period. At the same time\, the exhibition also sheds light on the vanished Radolfzell\, from the Hölle brewery to the “Café Achteck”\, and commemorates people from Radolfzell who sought their fortune abroad. Their stories show how home lives on in memory.       \nThe exhibition can be seen in the Radolfzell City Museum from May 17th. It invites all visitors to embark on a multifaceted journey through the past of the town on Lake Constance.  \nThe city museum is open Thursdays – Sundays from 11.00 am – 5.00 pm.

DESCRIPTION:Bicycle Excursion to Reichenau \nThe Radolfzell City Museum invites you to a bike excursion to Reichenau Island on Friday\, September 25\, 2026\, from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. With a distance of 45 kilometers\, this day-long tour is also suitable for non-motorized bicycles. The tour traces the early history of Radolfzell on the monastery island. The focus is on the Church of St. Peter and Paul in Niederzell\, which Bishop Egino of Verona had built in 799. It is closely linked to the town’s founding: Bishop Ratold of Verona\, the founder of Radolfzell\, wanted to settle here. When he was denied permission to do so\, he founded his “ratoldescella” on the northern shore of Lake Zell.        \nA group lunch break is planned at the Sandseele campground. \nIn the afternoon\, the itinerary includes a visit to St. Mary and St. Mark’s Cathedral as well as the treasury with its precious reliquaries and medieval works of art. The excursion combines physical activity with fascinating insights into the shared history of Radolfzell and the UNESCO World Heritage island of Reichenau. Participation costs 20.00 euros. DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, October 15\, 7:00 p.m.   \nKarl Ruby – Catholic resistance as youth work   \nLecture by Hildegard Bibby   \nKarl Ruby (1913-1990) came to Radolfzell as a vicar in 1937 and worked under the town priests Alfred Kuner and Josef Zuber. Ruby remained in Radolfzell until the end of 1945\, where the young vicar carried out courageous and cleverly disguised youth work. In doing so\, he strengthened the young people both in their faith and in their rejection of Nazi ideology. When Radolfzell was taken by the French on April 25\, 1945\, Karl Ruby played a decisive role in preserving the town alongside the town priest Zuber and a handful of Radolfzell men. DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, December 3\, 7:00 p.m.   \nThe Story of “Aunt T’s” Hutzelbrot Recipe—The Fate of a 19th-Century Emigrant from Radolfzell   \nLecture by Helmut Fidler   \nAn extraordinary family recipe traces back to the roots of a moving story of emigration: On Thursday\, December 3\, at 7 p.m.\, Helmut Fidler will tell the story of “Aunt T’s” Hutzelbrot recipe\, which is returning to the Lake Constance region from the U.S. after more than 150 years. It all began with a meeting with Laura Sylvan from Boston\, whose ancestors emigrated from Möggingen and Schlatt unter Krähen to Ohio in 1868. Among their belongings was the recipe for a traditional fruit bread that had been passed down through generations in the family. Drawing on this family tradition\, Fidler traces the fate of the Bechler family while also shedding light on the economic upheavals of the 19th century—from bankruptcies and real estate deals to emigration and a fresh start in America.
