The Allied air war in Radolfzell and its later districts
Lecture by Prof. Dr. Jürgen Klöckler
On June 21, 1943, a Royal Air Force pilot dropped bombs over Liggeringen.
Two men, three women and three girls died during the night of the bombing. Apart from the church, all the buildings in the agricultural village were damaged or destroyed. In 1944, the people of Radolfzell had to seek shelter in public bunkers more and more often during air raids. On April 21, 1945, low-flying aircraft attacked the Radolfzell train station and hospital. Two trains parked at the goods station caught fire after being hit by British fighter bombers and exploded. The population looted the contents of the remaining wagons. Prof. Dr. Jürgen Klöckler, deputy mayor of Liggeringen and city archivist of Constance, presents his research findings on the British side of the Allied air war in Radolfzell and its later districts.
