A summer full of hope – Jewish life on the Höri from 1933 to 1936
Lecture by Helmut Fidler
Although anti-Semitic actions were already part of everyday life after the seizure of power, Jewish children were able to experience and consolidate their Jewish identity in summer camps on the Höri peninsula during the first years of the Nazi dictatorship. Young Jews learned horticultural techniques at the Michaelshof Demeter farm in Horn and hoped that their emigration and visa applications would be successful. Despite opposition from the local Nazi authorities, the Ministry of Culture approved a Jewish youth hostel there. It took three years for anti-Semitism to prevail here too. In his lecture, Helmut Fidler looks at individual fates and traces their lives.
