The Vanished Radolfzell: Historic Buildings Between Memory and Oblivion

Lecture by Christof Stadler, historian and principal

Christof Stadler will speak at the Friedrich-Werber-Haus on November 12 at 7 p.m. about Radolfzell’s lost and forgotten architectural landmarks. Buildings that once defined the town, such as the “Karrensteig,” the beach café from 1928, or the “Café Achteck” prison, now exist only in memories. Fires, renovations, and a lack of awareness led to significant losses. Historical photos showcase the once-rich architectural heritage, featuring bay windows, dormer windows, and ornate shutters. Examples include the demolition of the Obertorturm in 1870 and part of the city wall in the Höllturmpassage. With every lost landmark, a piece of the city’s history and identity disappears.
